An end to Freedom Fries?
Times are a changin' in France. A new president has been elected and he is vowing to strengthen the relationship with the Untied States. Nicolas Sarkozy will replace Jacques Chirac, who was once a close ally of the first President Bush. As you may remember though, when the United States decided to invade Iraq in 2003, France deeply opposed the idea.. which of course led to the creation of Freedom Fries (even though french fries were created in Belgium) and Freedom Toast to show our displeasure for their lack of support. But that era is over and France has voted for change. Sarkozy is vowing to be harder on criminals and terrorists and has said that he'll stand with the United States when it comes to fighting terrorism. So will one of our oldest friends become a close friend again? Only time will tell, but at least Sarkozy is trying to make amends and start anew.
