A little message for do-it-yourselfers

There are about a dozen projects we need to do around the house this spring. The first being adding on to our deck. My husband just got a compressor for Easter with a nail gun soon to follow, but a statistic on nail gun injuries may make me rethink this project! According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention there are about 37,000 nail gun injuries each year.. yikes! Just in the past 15 years, nail gun injuries for do-it-yourselfers have risen 200%. The picture posted above was taken in 2004 of a trained construction worker who got shot in the head multiple times by a nail gun. Amazingly, he made a full recovery. I'd like to think we're pretty proficient when it comes to do-it-yourself projects, but if that can happen to someone trained in the business, then who knows what can happen in your own backyard. The CDC is trying to spread the word about the dangers of nail guns and make sure users are being extra cautious. So, if you have a home improvement project planned that requires a nail gun, be careful.. and be sure the keep the pets indoors!
