To drive, or to fly?

With summer vacation coming up soon, it's a question a lot of people will have to decide. Should I drive and spend an arm and a leg on gas or should I fly and risk delayed flights and lost luggage? A new report out today says more passengers are being bumped, more luggage is being lost and fewer flights are on time, but strangely enough, customer complaints have stabilized. I guess we're just getting used to the problems. I for one, have had my luggage lost, if only for a short time. Luckily, it was near the end of my trip and I had my bag (ok, 3 bags!) by the next morning. Despite the minor inconvenience, I did learn a valuable skill from the mishap -- how to be an "expert" packer. On my next vacation, I packed for 2 weeks all in a small carry-on bag. No one thought I could do it, but I did and have continued to be a smart packer ever since. No more lost luggage for me (and no more bags just for shoes!).

Now that I have a small child in tow, I think flying is out for any upcoming vacations.. at least this year. So the decision to drive or to fly will be easy for me. It's amazing how much stuff you have to pack for a baby. I still stick to my small carry-on bag rule for me, but that's only so I can make room in the trunk for all of the baby gear.

Whatever you decide, I hope your travels are safe and your luggage makes it there with you! If you'd like to share your travel stories or your thoughts about the airline study, just look for the link 'Airline Quality Report' under the discussion board section of our Sunrise web page.

Last year we took our 12 month old Daughter on a trip to Ohio and back. She did really good and seemed to enjoy most of her journey. By Car you can stop almost any time you need to and have everything you need handy. We made lots of stops but it was ok, we all stretched our legs. We even had a flat near Indy and I called for a Trooper to assist since we were dangerously close to the interstate. He arrived within 15 minutes and parked behind us, with all his emergency lights flashing, to help slow traffic while I changed the tire. I felt safe for my wife and daughter and we continued unscathed and had a great time. I'd recommend travel by auto any day over air. You have more control over your circumstances. We did bring her playpen, stroller, booster seat, and favorite toys. Kept milk and snaks in a cooler. Just my 2 cents. PS The AM show is great. We watch it every morning.

Thank You.

You must tell or show everyone how you pack for 2 weeks in a carry on bag.
