Summer is here!

Summer officially begins tomorrow, but it already feels like it out there! The 'triple H' weather, as our fabulous meteorologists like to call it, is here... hazy, hot and humid! Ted and I were talking on the morning show today about fun ways to stay cool, so I thought I would share a cheap and fun way to have some fun in your yard this summer. When I was little, we had a long, sloped yard, the kind that is perfect for a Slip 'N Slide, but not great for volleyball... you get the idea. Anyways, my dad came up with a great and free way to have some fun. He just happened to have a roll of Visqueen (black plastic) that we rolled out the length of the yard and put the water hose at the top... and voila! You've got a perfect homemade slip 'n slide that is much longer and wider than the store bought version. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of our homemade creation, but I did find this picture that reminded me of our slip 'n slide and it makes me want a sloped yard again! If you have any ideas or tips for some homemade fun in the sun, please share them!

As parents we are always bringing up the "when i was a kid"...i have taught my kids how to slip n slide on black trash bags, play jump board in the backyard and other such fun games. Our favorite summer activity has become making ice cream in a coffee can....grandma taught us that one!!

I know EXACTLY what kind of home made slip and slide you are talking about. My brother and myself would make one every year in our backyard. There is one word of advice however. Do Not use a brick to hold the waterhose or the plastic. We made ours over 20 years ago,and I still have the scar to show for it. I will say this much though,we were the hit of the neighborhood for it.My mother would get many calls complaining about bathtubs after our fun days.
